Anna Wintour resigns as editor-in-chief of Vogue
This morning, Anna Wintour conveyed to the staff of Vogue that the publication will soon be in search of a new head of editorial content.
While Wintour will maintain her dual roles as Chief Content Officer for Condé Nast—where she supervises the editorial vision for various renowned brands such as WIRED, Vanity Fair, GQ, Architectural Digest, Condé Nast Traveler, Glamour, Bon Appétit, Tatler, World of Interiors, Allure, Teen Vogue, Ars Technica, and Them on a global scale—she will also continue her responsibilities as Global Editorial Director for Vogue. The individual who assumes this pivotal role will be tasked with steering the magazine’s daily operations across multiple platforms, reporting directly to Wintour, in alignment with the editorial heads at all Vogue editions. Vogue US will allow Wintour greater time and flexibility to support the other global markets that Condé Nast serves.
“Those engaged in creative pursuits understand the vital importance of continuous growth in their craft. When I took on the role of editor at Vogue, I was driven by a fervent desire to demonstrate to anyone willing to hear that there was a fresh and exhilarating vision for what an American fashion magazine could be,” Wintour expressed to the Vogue team during a meeting on Thursday.
“Today, I discover that my deepest satisfaction lies in guiding the emerging generation of fervent editors as they boldly enter the arena with their unique perspectives, buoyed by a refreshing and dynamic vision of what a leading media organization can embody. This is precisely the type of individual we must seek to fill the role of Head of Editorial Content for US Vogue.”
She further elaborated that, on a practical note, numerous aspects of her role at Vogue would continue unchanged, stating, “This includes maintaining a keen focus on the fashion industry and the remarkable cultural phenomenon that is our illustrious Met Ball, while also steering the direction of future Vogue Worlds and any other innovative, audacious concepts we may conceive. It goes without saying that I fully intend to uphold my position as Vogue’s lifelong tennis and theater editor.”
“But how exhilarating it will be,” she concluded, “to collaborate with someone new who will not only challenge us but also inspire us and provoke fresh perspectives, encouraging us to envision Vogue through a multitude of innovative lenses.”
